Course Overview

This programme is designed chronologically and ranges from Medieval to Contemporary British Literature. Students will read both fiction and non-fiction pieces and experiment with different types of writing.

Old & Middle English (450–1500)

From Anglo-Saxon epic poetry to the transition into Middle English following the Norman Conquest.

English Renaissance (1500–1660)

The height of cultural movement, featuring the unsurpassed works of William Shakespeare.

Romanticism & Victorian Era (1798–1901)

Major social changes reflected in the works of Dickens, the Brontës, and Romantic poets.

Modern & Post-Modern

Genre fiction, fantasy (Tolkien, Lewis, Rowling), and contemporary literary analysis.
